8 February 2018, Kuala Lumpur: The UN Global Compact Malaysia (GCMY) recently hosted a one-day networking event for members to convene and identify sustainability challenges and tap into new opportunities within the Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs).
The event saw 29 leaders representing 19 private companies, social enterprises and non-governmental organizations actively engaged in discussions to generate new ideas and provide a plan of action on sustainable living, ethical reporting and responsible business practices.
The objective of the networking event by GCMY is to guide businesses on how to take concrete leadership action on each of the SDGs.
Forest Interactive, a mobile technology provider in Malaysia said: “Being a member of the UN GCMY is both an honour and an opportunity. An honour to be part of a dynamic network whose goal is to make the world a better place. An opportunity to meet and exchange with a variety of NGOs, companies and institutions to inspire us and work with on our sustainable development projects.”
“We were able to network and connect with key SDG champions in the region last February 8 at Menara UOA. Organized by GCMY in a speakeasy setting, the event allowed us to learn about organizations fighting hunger, a company reusing seat belts for fashion items and another providing sustainable furniture (biji-biji.com) and we also had the opportunity to discuss the benefits of being a part of a group that aims to make the world a better place. All of them with great stories and a strong will to go further in their action and work together.”
