Introduction to the National SDG Portal

20 November 2017, Kuala Lumpur: The United Nations Global Compact Malaysia (GCMY) conducted its first introduction to underline how companies can showcase their commitments to achieve Malaysia’s SDG targets on the region’s first National Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Portal.

Implementation of the new agenda requires a major effort from country’s business leaders in moving from decisions to actions.

Present at the briefing were leaders representing a combination of large corporations, not-for-profit enterprises and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) including International Science, Technology & Innovation Centre (ISTIC), Inspira Communications, 1Malaysia 4 Youth (iM4U), Sunway Group Berhad and YTL Holding Berhad.

This agenda sets the path for agencies, civil society, and businesses to work together to end poverty, promote prosperity and people’s well-being while protecting the environment from 2017 to 2030.

Dr. Puvan Selvanathan, President of GCMY highlighting the range of resources available once the SDG portal is live in January 2018.

The portal walkthrough showcased how government, private sector, civil society stakeholders, youth and other stakeholders could feature stories, articles and pledges in order to accomplish the achievement of the SDGs in Malaysia. Each story would showcase how different stakeholders are contributing to the national performance on the SDGs.

The National SDG Portal is planned to be launched in January 2018 by the Government and the United Nations Country Team. The next portal walkthrough is scheduled to take place end of November 2017.
