9th October 2017, Kuala Lumpur: UN Global Compact Network Malaysia (GCMY) provided Sarawak Energy the opportunity to participate in side-events during 72nd UN General Assembly Week at UN Headquarters in New York recently. Sarawak Energy shared its vision for sustainable growth and meet the need for reliable, renewable energy for the region.
Sarawak Energy is a leading member of the GCMY Advisory Board and is committed to helping Malaysia achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) goals, in particular access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
“Sarawak Energy is a Sustainability leader contributing to the national effort to transform the energy sector in Malaysia. It successfully promotes renewable energy and energy efficiency and on the way to achieving the SDGs by 2030” said Puvan Selvanathan, GCMY President.
GCMY aims to provide all its members with similar opportunities to both excel and showcase their initiatives in corporate sustainability and responsibility. Sarawak Energy has gained a competitive advantage to present on international UN platforms such as this in New York to learn, take collective action and build sustainable partnerships.

Convening nearly 1,000 global leaders from over 70 countries during UN General Assembly week, this year’s Summit was a powerful reminder of the important role the private sector plays in raising the ambition, driving innovation and measuring the impact of responsible business action.
Aisah Eden, EVP for Corporate Services, said “Sarawak Energy presented our commitment on action to positively transform Malaysia’s energy system as well as participate in forums and discussions related to SDGs”.
In recent years, the company has outlined its role of business as a force for good which meant this harnessing renewable energy to support growth, in alignment with national economic policies such as the 10th and 11th Malaysia Plans, as well as with the following UN SDGs.
