Puvan was a UN Special Mandate Holder on Business and Human Rights for four years, appointed by the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. He was also Head of Food & Agriculture at the UN Global Compact Office in New York, working closely with FAO in Rome, before becoming Head of the International Trade Centre’s New York Office (a joint agency of the UN and World Trade Organisation).
Before joining the UN, Puvan formed and led the Group Sustainability Department at Sime Darby as its first Chief Sustainability Officer. This was also Malaysia’s first ever CSO appointment, and Puvan was deeply involved in shaping the landscape for Corporate Sustainability in Malaysia as President of the Business Council for Sustainability and Responsibility, the national chapter of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.
An Architect by profession, Puvan holds an MBA and a DBA in Corporate Strategy and Sustainability.
